ISLAMABAD, (SANA): Speaking in the National Assembly Leader of the Opposition Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah said the problems faced by the country can be overcome with the policy of consensus. He said his party will fully play the role of opposition but at the same time support the government on national issues.
The National Assembly resumed its session in Islamabad Wednesday with Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in the chair.
Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani said prices of essential commodities have gone up just after the presentation of the budget. He said no relief has been given to the poor people. He said the PML-N had pledged in its election manifesto to increase minimum wage but nothing was announced in this regard. He described the ten percent raise in salaries as insufficient.
Sardar Nabil Gabol expressed concerns over the situation in Karachi and Balochistan. He said serious efforts are required to improve the situation there. He said the government has no clear policy on the energy crisis. He said affluent people should be brought into the tax net and relief given to the poor people.
Marvi Memon said the government has inherited several problems from the previous government and our objective is to clear up the mess of the previous government as well as put the economy on the right track. She said several relief measures have been announced in the budget including payment of circular debt in sixty days, housing schemes for low income groups and programmes for the youth.
Responding to a call attention notice moved by Makhdoomzada Basit Bukhari regarding desecration of verses of the Holy Quran printed in newspapers, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervez Rashid informed the House that it is a highly important matter and close to our heart. He, however, said that we cannot solely take decision regarding imposition of ban on the printing of Holy verses in newspapers without taking on board the owners of newspapers. He said the Ministry of Information will fulfill its responsibilities in this regard and if the House proposes any strategy, it will also be implemented.
The Minister said that responsibility rests with all of us to ensure the sanctity of the Holy verses.
Later, the House offered Fateha for those killed in Mardan blast on Tuesday.
Members belonging to MQM staged a walkout from the House over the killing of their workers in Karachi.
Shaista Pervaiz Malik said several measures have been announced in the budget to address issues of unemployment and backwardness. She said cuts on expenditures and austerity measures are the most important aspects of this budget. She said the present government has the intention and will to pull the country out of the crises.
