KARACHI, HYDERABAD, (SANA): At least 12 persons have been killed in the result of ongoing target killing incidents in Karachi here on Thursday. Meanwhile, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM)’s candidate from Sindh provincial assembly constituency PS-47 Fakhrul Islam was shot dead by unknown gunmen near Halanaka in Hyderabad.
According to police, the attackers fled from the scene after killing the leader while the body was shifted to hospital. A large number of party workers reached the hospital.
However, the attackers managed to escape from the scene after the incident.
Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesperson Ehsanullah Ehsan talking to media claimed that the proscribed organization was behind the killing of MQM-backed Fakhrul Islam in Hyderabad,in continuation of the militant group’s earlier announcement of targeting of secular parties in Pakistan.
MQM chief Altaf Hussain condemned the incident and said in a statement issued from London that such cowardly acts would not deter the confidence of party workers, adding that the party workers shared the loss and grievance with the family members of the deceased.
Altaf Hussain demanded that the Provincial Governor and caretaker chief minister should take immediate notice of the incident and bring to justice those behind the attack.He further demanded protection of the party’s candidates.
Meanwhile in the target killing incidents in Karachi continued on Thursday claiming 12 more lives. Three city wardens were killed and one was inured in the result of the firing of unknown persons in Soldier Bazaar area of the city. The killed city wardens included Farooq, Nasrullah and Sadiq.
One person was killed in the result of firing by unknown persons in Orangi Town Sector 11.
Meanwhile, one person was injured in the result of the firing of unknown persons in federal B area of the city. Police said two tortured bodies were recovered from Powerhouse Chowrangi in North Karachi area and one from Nusrat Bhutto Colony.
In another incident, a man was gunned down by assailants in Shah Faisal Colony.
Two persons were injured when a cracker bomb was lobbed in the metropolis’ area of-Zahra Garden of Malir area of the city.
One person was injured in the result of the firing of unknown persons in Faqir colony.
On the other hand, Rangers continued their ‘targeted’ operation in the city. Over 500 paramilitary personnel took part in Thursday’s operation conducted in Lyari’s Kashti Chowk and Rabia City area of Karachi.
The officials said over a dozen suspected criminals were rounded up and illegal arms were also recovered.
