FO says drone strikes illegal; hints at contacting UNSC, ICJ

ISLAMABAD, (SANA):  Negotiations with the United States are continuing on all issues and decision would be made in accordance with the recommendations by the Parliament.

This was stated by Foreign Office spokesman Moazzam Ahmad Khan while replying to newsmen questions at his weekly news briefing here in Islamabad on Thursday.

The spokesman said there is a mutual desire on both sides to normalise relations as soon as possible.  He hoped that we will come up with a mutually acceptable solution of all the issues.

Replying to a question, he said we did not go in Chicago Conference with any expectations.  He said we were there because of Afghanistan and because we were invited for the conference.  He said Pakistan has an important role to play for stability and peace in Afghanistan.

To a question regarding drone attacks, the Foreign Office spokesman said Pakistan strongly condemns the attacks and find them totally in violation of our territorial integrity.  He said these are in contravention of international law, illegal, counter-productive and totally unacceptable.  When asked why Pakistan not move the UNSC or International Court of Justice, he said we are trying to resolve this issue bilaterally, however, all options are open for Pakistan.

Answering a question regarding Dr. Shakeel Afridi, he said his case would be decided in accordance with Pakistani laws and by the Pakistan Courts.  He said we need to respect each others legal process.

Replying to a question, the spokesman said Foreign Minister is visiting Japan on the invitation of her Japanese counterpart.  He said all issues of mutual interest would be discussed during meeting between her and her Japanese counterpart.

To a question, he said Interior Secretaries of Pakistan and India would discuss issues including terrorism, fishermen and prisoners besides other matters during their meetings.
