Five people killed, 50 injured in Karachi blast

KARACHI, (SANA): At least five people have been killed and about 50 other were injured when a loud explosion ripped apart a passenger bus parked outside the gates of Karachi Cantonment Railway Station, the main railway station in the city.

The blast completely ripped opened the roof of the bus, which caught fire following the explosion. The bus was filling gas at a CNG station when the blast occurred; cylinders installed in other vehicles nearby were also exploded with this blast.

Five people were killed and about 50 were injured in the blast. The injured were shifted to Jinnah Hospital,” said Ahmed Chinoy, the head of the Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC). Buildings and vehicles close to the site were also damaged in the blast

Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) officials said the blast occurred in a passenger bus after two CNG cylinders exploded back to back.
Police officials said one of the cylinders was placed on the top of the bus. The bus caught fire after the blast.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik sought report on the blast from IG Sindh. and Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon also reached the blast site.

Rescue teams and security officials rushed to the site of the blast, while people and firefighters remained busy putting out the fire.

According to eyewitnesses, the bus was scheduled to depart for Sargodha.

Karachi’s Cantt Station is one of the busiest areas of the city. It is one of the main terminals for inter-city travel as well as outside the city. The bus and coach terminals right outside the station are also used by hundreds everyday for travel to different parts of the country.
