Business development chalked out to reduce losses of PIA: Mukhtar

ISLAMABAD, (SANA): The Senate was informed Friday that a business development plan has been chalked out to improve the efficiency and reduce the losses of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

During question hour in the Senate today, Minister for Defence Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar said the business plan has been forwarded to the Finance Division for further action.

He said, PIA will be transformed into a profitable entity and there is a plan to replace the ageing fleet of PIA with the new aircraft to provide better transportation facilities to the people.  

Responding to a supplementary question Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar said despite shortage of aircraft efforts have been made to facilitate the pilgrims going to Saudi Arabia for Hajj.

The Opposition members staged walkout from the House over the absence of different Federal Ministers and non release of development funds for certain areas.

Chairman Senate Farooq H. Naek while taking strong notice of the absence of Ministers from the House during question hour said the members prepare the questions with great work and the Ministers should ensure their presence to answer their queries. He said he will also bring the matter into the notice of the Prime Minister.

Leader of the House, Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari said every Cabinet member is answerable to the Parliament and if the concerned Minister is unable to attend the session he should entrust his responsibility to any other Cabinet member.
 
The House today passed the Carriage by Air Bill, 2011.The Bill was moved by Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar. The house will now meet at 04.00 P.M.  Monday evening.
