African Union opens summit in Uganda

KAMPALA (SANA): Following the killing of 76 people in twin blasts during World Cup final a week back, the African leaders are gathering in Uganda for the opening of a major African Union summit.

The Foreign Minister of Uganda Sam Kutesa told the delegates from 49 nations that their arrival showed that the terrorists could not defeat them.

The arrival of the delegates “shows that terrorists cannot defeat us,” Sam was quoted as saying. He called on African states and the world at large to fight against terrorism.

The summit will focus on peace and security, infrastructure, energy and food security and during the summit most African heads of state will be in Uganda from July 25 to July 27.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Somali militant group al-Shabab had claimed the responsibility of the July 11 bombings in two locations in Uganda’s capital, Kampala, during the World Cup final.
