Aamer ‘cleverer than I was at 18′, Wasim Akram observes

LONDON, (SANA): Following the Aamer’s good performance in the Test against Australia, Pakistani former cricket star and fast bowler Wasim Akram has said that Muhammad Aamer is much cleverer than the former was at 18-years-old.

In the match, Aamer took four wickets for 72 runs as he led Pakistan’s attack in the ongoing first Test against Australia here at Lord’s in his first Test.

Talking to media after the match, Wasim told media that 18-year-old Aamer was a special talent and was having pace and nip adding he could swing the ball both ways which was ideal for a paceman, and augurs well for his future.

“He is much cleverer than when I was 18,” said Wasim.

It is pertinent to mention here that Wasim had taken 10 wickets in his only second Test, against New Zealand at Dunedin in 1984.

“Aamer has got a head start and is a quick learner, so I see no reason why he can’t go on to become a leading fast bowler,” Wasim observed.

However, Wasim said that he noticed that Aamer bowled wide of the crease and advised him to ‘bowl closer to the stumps’.

“Some people say his physique is not that of a fast bowler, but he is only 18. He can strengthen his muscles with time and I am sure he will spend more time in the gym,” he added.

He said that he was always happy to meet Aamer and pass on few tips.

Wasim hoped Aamer’s experience of England pitches with the Pakistan Under-19 team in 2007 would come in handy.

Former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja also praised Aamer and said while commenting that “Aamer’s progress augurs well for Pakistan and I hope he continues to work hard and take the Pakistan team forward.”
