China & South Asia committed to promote economic cooperation

ISLAMABAD (SANA): The leadership of China and the South Asian countries has expressed firm commitment to further promote socio-economic ties to explore enormous potential in intra China- South Asian trade and work together to transform two great civilizations into World’s leading economic power.

This was resolved during the inaugural session of the 5th China-South Asia Business Forum (CSABF) concluded, the 6th June 2010 at Kunming city of China.

Mr. Qin Guangrong, Governor of Yunnan Province inaugurated the session while stating that China was willing to establish profound economic relations with South Asian countries, which have great complementarities and potential to penetrate in the World 2nd largest economy.

Mr. Wan Jifei, Chairman of Chine Council for Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) said that CCPIT and Chamber of Commerce & Industry in South Asian countries could play bigger role towards promotion of economic cooperation through shared vision and proactive approach.

Mr. Annisul Huq, President SAARC Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SAARC CCI) said that China need to play a role of big brother and to Assist South Asian countries through technical assistance, transformation of technology, reallocation of labour-intensive industries to South Asian countries, which would practically helpful for promoting bilateral trade and economic cooperation between China and South Asia. He also emphasized for Preferential Market Access to South Asian Countries in vast Chinese Market and regarded Chinese investment as a tool to promote China- SAARC trade which was only $ 66 billion as compared with China’s trade of $ 250 billion with ASEAN countries.

Syed Mohibullah Shah, CEO, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) while sharing his views at the Forum said that Pakistan and China have been enjoying exemplary and time-tested friendship and signing of Free Trade Agreement with China provides a greater roadmap to translate these relations into a sizeable trade and economic cooperation.

He said that promotion of economic and trade cooperation with China and South Asian Countries was the strategic part of the trade policy of Pakistan as we foresee a better and brighter future of Pakistan in Asian Market.

The inaugural session of 5th China-Asia Forum was also addressed by Mr. Ghulam Mohammad Aylaqi, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Afghanistan, Mr. Mahinda Samarasinghe, Minister of Plantations, Sri Lanka, Mr. Ali Rasheed Hussain, Deputy Minister of Economic Development , Maldives, Mr. Sayed Ashraful Islam, Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperation of Bangladesh.

The inaugural session was followed by two parallel sessions i.e. Government’s, Stimulating Policies and Finance Cooperation and reciprocal collaboration among Enterprises. The latter was moderated by Mr. Tariq Sayeed, patron-in-chief of Pak-China Business Council, former President of SAARC CCI and FPCCI
