Detained separatist gets Pak invite

SRINAGAR (SANA): Ministry of External Affairs of Pakistan has invited senior separatist leader and Chairman of Democratic Freedom Party, Shabir Ahmad Shah here the other day.

A statement of DFP issued here said Pakistan Foreign Minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi has sent a letter asking the ailing leader to express his views for “peaceful resolution of longstanding Kashmir issue”.

The letter, a photostat copy of which was issued by DFP along with the statement said: “Pakistan has always extended political, diplomatic and moral support to the just cause of Kashmiri people for achieving their right to self-determination.”

The letter signed by Pakistan Foreign Minister read: “With a view to promote peaceful resolution of the longstanding Kashmir dispute, we would like to benefit from your valuable views. I am, therefore, pleased to extend an invitation to you to visit Pakistan at mutually convenient dates in the second half of March 2010.”

Meanwhile, the Red Cross has expressed concern over the deteriorating health of Shah.

In a statement issued here, a delegation of Red Cross the other day led by Dr Laurant Sabilia visited the DFP chairman’s residential house and met the Acting Chairman, Moulana Abdullah Tari, who appraised the delegation about the condition of the ailing leader.

Expressing concern, Sabilia said that the matter would be taken up with the government and RCC would also pay a visit to the jail to enquire about Shah’s health.
