Business community rejects VAT, says FCCI President

FAISALABAD (SANA): Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FCCI) President Sh. Abdul Qayyum said on Tuesday the business community rejected the proposed Value Added Tax (VAT) and urged the government to bring its proposals to different Chambers of Commerce and Industries to check its worth.

This he said while talking to a two-day conference, in which almost Presidents of 20 Chambers were present at Bhurban, Murree while the scores of Government officials were also present.

According to press release issued by Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce FCCI, President, Sh. Abdul Qayyum said that the business leaders announced the 16 points joint resolution during a press conference at the conclusion of the conference.

Talking to media, he said the emphasis was laid upon the resolution of energy and water crisis in the meeting.

The press release said that it was the joint voice of entire business community for bringing good governance and institutional building at all levels and to increase revenues by expanding tax net in the country.

It stressed the government to cut non developmental expenditure by introducing good governance. 

It was also demanded that a commercial counselors abroad should be appointed, Trade and Commerce Group be formed which could work to enhance exports of Pakistan.

The meeting also adopted a resolution asking the Government to prepare all the budget proposals in consultation with business community moreover to include representation of the businessmen in the decision making organizations such Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).

The meeting also agreed for taking solid steps to culminate smuggling and parallel trade, which was harmful to the country’s economy as well as industry.

The conference also urged the Government to resolve the energy crises at once to promote business activities in the country, which were halted due to acute shortage of electricity and gas by adopting international standards regarding the energy conservation.

The participants also demanded the Government to include women in policy making as they have almost 52 percent of share in total population. 

It was learnt that New Ploy Technical Institutions may be set up at district level to transform the youth into a skilled work force as this step would not only polish the talent of the young generation but also provide the skilled labor force to the local industry. It will decrease the rate of unemployment in Pakistan.
