US to provide Rs. 7.2 b grant up to June for BISP

ISLAMABAD (SANA): The United States will provide Rs. 7.2 billion up to June this year for Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) for which an agreement was signed here on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, the US envoy on Pakistan Assistance Robin Raphel said that this grand will be utilized for eradication of poverty and improvement of education and health facilities in Pakistan. She said her country is committed to extend all types of assistance for ensuring rapid socio-economic uplift of the people of Pakistan.

In her remarks chairperson BISP, Farzana Raja said the government will spend seventy billion rupees under the programme during the current financial year. She said sixteen billion rupees have been disbursed so far under BISP while nine billion rupees would be disbursed during the next week among the deserving people.

Farzana Raja said overall seven million poor families will be benefited from this programme.

To a question she said that a survey to assess poverty in Balochistan will be launched next month under the Aghaz-e-Haqooq Balochistan Programme. She said after completion of this survey the purview of the BISP would be further expanded in the far flung areas of the province.
